Sylvester Dale 1936 - 1939 - In Memoriam
Richard and I were present at the Church of the Latter Day Saints in Crawley on 25th June for the funeral of our dear friend and Old Scholar, SYLVESTER HUBERT DALE, known to his family as "Baba". He was one of nine boys born in Salford, Manchester, born on 13th March, 1923. You may remember two or three years ago Sylvester and his lovely wife, Jean, and their family shared their Diamond Wedding celebrations with us on our Reunion Day. Sylvester had only ever missed one Reunion Day. He was with us this year but was not well. He always said that Chailey was the making of him in his future life after Chailey. He was the proud father of five children. The coffin came into the church to the music of, The Ashokan Farewell. Hymns were sung and the story of Sylvester's life was given by Jean, his wife. Poems were read, (1) "Daffodils" by William Wordsworth, (2) "The Ship" and (3) "The Life That I Have" by Leo Marks. The Guild Psalm was said and after a blessing we went out to "Zadok The Priest" by Handel. At the Wake Richard and I met many interesting people from different walks of Sylvester's life. May he rest in peace. Janet, Chairman
