THE SOUND OF RAIN I could fall sleep to the sound of the rain, The hrush of tyres coming up the road, And the changing patterns of the birds calls. Everything will be fresh, washed and tumbled Clean air and music as the rains come down. I fall asleep to the rains tune, the steady beat On the windows, sharp and soft in turn. The water running down the path, liquid That called and laughed as it became a streamlet. And then the silence, the clean smell Of dusty earth now softened with damp. Almost, you can hear the garden straighten Up in thanks, each plant stretching in relief. I could fall asleep to the sound of rain.
